Ten Things You Need To Know Before Booking Your Wedding Florist

Choosing the right florist is crucial for your wedding’s overall aesthetic and atmosphere. In my opinion, flowers can completely transform a space with colour, scent, texture and overall feel. I’ve compiled a list of key points that I think all brides/couples should consider before picking their florist:

1. Understand Your Vision

   – Style: Know the style you want — classic, modern, wild, etc. Ensure the florist can deliver on that vision.

   – Colour Palette: Have a clear idea of your colour scheme and any specific flowers you may like to include or avoid.

2. Set a Budget

   – Prioritise: Determine how much you can spend on flowers and prioritise what’s most important to you.

   – Hidden Costs: Be aware of potential extra costs like delivery, setup, or breakdown fees.

3. Research and Get Recommendations

   – Portfolio: Look at florists’ portfolios online to see if their past work aligns with your vision.

   – Reviews and Testimonials: Check online reviews or get recommendations from friends or wedding planners.

4. Consultation and Communication

   – Initial Meeting: Schedule a consultation call to discuss your vision, budget, and any concerns. Share inspiration photos and your colour palette.

   – Communication Style: Assess how well the florist listens to your ideas and whether they offer helpful suggestions.

5. Seasonality of Flowers

   – Availability: Know which flowers are in season during your wedding. Out-of-season flowers will be more expensive or in some cases, impossible for your florist to source.

   – Alternatives: Ask about alternatives if your preferred flowers aren’t available.

6. Bespoke Full Service vs. Package Florals

   – Full-Service: Some florists offer comprehensive services, including design, setup, and breakdown, which might be ideal for a stress-free experience.

   – Package Florals: If you’re on a tighter budget or want to handle some aspects yourself, a package floral service may be more suitable.

7. Logistics and Contracts

   – Timeline: Ensure the florist is clear on the timeline, including when and where to deliver and set up the arrangements.

   – Contract Details: Carefully review the contract, payment schedules and cancellation policies.

8. Personal Connection

   – Comfort Level: You’ll be working closely with your florist, so choose someone you feel comfortable with and who seems genuinely interested in making your vision come to life.

9. Your Venue

   – Maximise Your Venue: Think about key areas of your venue that you’d like to dress with flowers and if possible, send pictures to your potential florist to discuss ideas.

– Venue Visit: Once you’ve secured your florist and if possible, visit the venue together to discuss ideas and see where floral arrangements will be placed. This helps the florist understand the space and lighting conditions.

10. Samples and Mock-ups

   – Preview: If possible, request a sample centrepiece or bouquet to ensure it meets your expectations. Florists will charge for this, but it can provide peace of mind. Bear in mind that it may not be possible to create a like-for-like replica due to the seasonality and availability of certain flowers.

I hope that taking these steps will help ensure that you find a florist who not only understands your vision but can also execute it beautifully! Follow @wildmomentsfloraldesign on Instagram for more planning tips and wedding flower inspiration or head over to the enquiry page to enquire now!
